A big surprise :) Nagy meglepetés

As parents we try to make our kids happy, and I think that was in the back of Wayne's mind when he came up with the idea of finishing Reni's bedroom by the time she gets back from the orientation week at her college. I thought it was a brilliant idea, except for the fact that we only had 5 days to accomplish it :) But we like challenges, so we decided to do our best. I got really excited, since this is something I've been waiting for months: start shopping for furniture, accessories. I'm sure you guys (especially women) can relate to this, right? :)
So I started my frantic online shopping on Monday, trying to find the bed that Reni likes (dark wood, not too low profile), but I couldn't find any nice one in the price range we can afford, and the one we had picked earlier with Reni, couldn't have been delivered on time. So I gave up on the new bed, and decided to use the one we had in her old bedroom (a white twin bed).
Besides shopping for accessories, the main challenge was to put in flooring. We told Dave we MUST finish the room by Friday night. Even though he could only come on Friday, he said that was ok, they can finish it on time (it's about a 12' x 11' bedroom).
So we picked up the flooring (we ended up buying laminate instead of bamboo, but it looks nice, and cheaper, which was the main reason why we bought it :) Oh well, if you have to cover like 2000 square feet, that makes a difference.
We went out shopping almost every day, and I felt like those designers on HGTV shows, choosing throw pillows, rug, bedding etc. It was much fun! Since Reni had showed me a bedding earlier that she really liked, we bought that (a passport style duvet cover) so I thought that a "travel" theme bedroom would really look cool. I was a happy camper when I found 2 cute pillows that go well with the theme, as well as a clock (with the Eiffel Tower on the face). We also found a nice corner shelf and a cool ceiling fan. Icing on the cake was that they were a bargain, since the fan was a floor model, so we got it half price, and the shelf was bent (Wayne's coworker fixed it later) so we got 25% off on that, too.
So after the successful shopping it was time to put everything in. First of all, we had to find the bed and the desk in the container, of course they were hidden in the far corner of it :) Anyway, we managed to pull them out. Friday looked like those "Design Star" competitions: we were working like crazy to finish everything on time. While Wayne was putting up the curtain rod, Dave was still working on the last pieces of the laminate floor, and gluing the base molding.
Finally, after several hours of frantic work, we finished everything (except for the closet doors:) and were on way to pick Reni up. We got home around 8.30pm and.....here comes the fun part, were ready to "reveal" the room. So I told Reni that the workers had been working on the house during the week, and I wanted to show it to her. So we went upstairs and I opened the door for Reni:) Here's her reaction :))) (and ours, thanks to Wayne, who recorded it :)) What a priceless moment, and what a joy to make someone happy like this!

Hello everyone! Üdv mindenkinek!

The big day:) / A nagy nap :)

Yes, the big day is here: we started the demolition on Monday, June 7th! The previous night was crazy, we had to clean out the whole house...Even though I had started it quite a few days earlier, still there was a lot in there. Clothes in the closets, kitchen utensils, lots of canned food in the pantry (I wonder why on earth we have to keep so much stuff in the pantry) folders in the file cabinet, toys,  you name it...Travis came over to help take out the big pieces, like the stove, TV, refrigerator etc. We were up till midnight, so exhausted by then that could hardly move :) We just pulled out everything, put them in boxes, not caring any more about sorting things...Now most of them are in boxes all around - in the shed, in the pool (this is our new storage place, it had been drained,of course:-) I'm sure it'll take days till we can find everything we need :) After the long, tiring day, we fell asleep really quickly in the motor home :) Monday morning came fast, the demo guys

Today's accomplishment .. A mai nap eredménye

...so today's accomplishment is this: the blocks have been delivered, the crane arrived on time and the blocks are being lowered into the basement area just right now. Not bad...Good thing it is "just" 95F today.
