Building our new house - Ha felépül egyszer a házunk...

Well, I made up this law, but it's so true! I haven't written anything for a while, but I have a good excuse:) We've been kind of stuck (which is really frustrating when you actually want to move forward), because 1. we have to wait for the gas company to come out and turn the gas off. They are also going to change the old pipes and put in something safer and more modern. 2. It turned out, that the 30 day notice that we had sent out to our neighbors, wasn't "enough". We have to send out another notice about the back wall that we are building...bummer! Well, somebody screwed something up...According to Wayne, when our engineer turned in the paperwork to get the permit, he should've added the back wall plan, which he didn't do...Well, what can I say? At least I've got more time to pack everything... The funny thing was - I'm sure God has a good sense of humor, and wants us to get prepared for the "transition time", ie. moving in the m...

Seriously...it's getting more exciting. When you see people on the roof using their hammers, or a Bob Cat lifting up dirt in the back yard, then you know, they ARE actually working:) Well, this is an on-the-job training for us, too. Wayne just learned that it's not enough to agree on a price but you actually have to write down everything. In that case you can avoid such surprises like all of a sudden the agreed price/hour is 10 bucks more, or the guys have a "short day" on Saturday but want you to pay for the whole day. Anyway, we're making progress...not as fast as Wayne would like it though. Yep...I can tell that there's a difference between our work ethics (or just the way of doing stuff) and that of those working in our backyard...No offence, this is nothing to do with prejudice, just an observation :) The garage has been taken down by now, fence put up around the property and in the backyard. Wow...it's getting really exiting! We have a date for both the garage and the house demo!...The garage is going to be taken down this Friday...yay:) At the same time we're going to put up the fence to keep the dogs in. Wayne's been working hard cleaning out everything. We've already taken several loads to the church rummage sale.My goodness, how many old books, LP's, old fashioned cushions, pillows, coffee tables...Good thing we could borrow a trailer from the church, otherwise it would be pretty hard to put all the stuff in the trunk:)  I just found another interesting item, that is actually very cool: a Life Magazine from 1955! It's very special for Wayne (that's why he's kept it), because this issue is as old as he is! :) Look at those dresses from the 50's...and the ads. Well, back then tobacco ads weren't banned yet:) As to the "more serious" next faze, the demo of the house, if everything goes well,  we're going to start it ...

Another "treasure" that we found in the garage...just kidding :) Actually this old land cruiser has been parking on the driveway for years.. . Egy újabb kincs, amit a garázsban találtunk...csak viccelek:) ez a terepjáró évek óta a kocsifelhajtón áll...Talán el tudjuk adni valami antikvitás-kedvelő és bütykölni szerető embernek :)

Azt hiszem, most már értem, miért olyan népszerű Amerikában a "garage sale" vagy "yard sale". Hogy mi is ez? Amikor meg akarsz szabadulni a garázsban és a lakás egyéb helyiségeiben felhalmozódott sok-sok limlomtól, régi, de még esetleg használható bútoroktól, nagymamától örökölt csipketeritőktől és még ki tudja, mindentől, nos, akkor rendezel egy "garage sale"-t. Ilyenkor az ember a környéken kiplakátolja az "eseményt" (legtöbbször szombatra időzitik, hiszen akkor ér rá mindenki), kirakodja az "árut",majd szépen kiül a garázs vagy ház elé a kempingszékre, és várja a kedves vevőjelölteket :) És hogy miért népszerű ez az időtöltés? Én arra a következtetésre jutottam - és javitsatok ki, ha nem igy van - hogy 1. mindenki szeret "kincsekre" vadászni, 2. mindenki szeret olcsón hozzájutni dolgokhoz, 3. az amerikai átlagpolgár rengeteg felesleges holmit halmoz fel, amitől előbb-utóbb, amikor a tárolókapacitás elérte a limitet, meg ke...

So we met this contractor last Saturday, but before that we had a fun adventure. As we were dropping off Easter Service invitation fliers of our church at the neighborhood, we came across a nice house with a few features that we plan to have. So Wayne rang and a lady answered the door. It turned out that they were Christians too. We made a compliment about their nice house, adding that we were planning to remodel our house too and we liked the features of theirs. The lady was like, oh my husband is a contractor and actually he's done all the work on our house. They even invited us in and showed us around...the icing on the cake was that it turned out that the husband was Croatian (I could tell he had some European accent:) and after I mentioned that we were from Hungary, he said 'oh, then we're neighbors' .
